Life in the Fort - 12.30-1.30pm
£5 per child. Advance booking is essential.
Join us at Segedunum Roman Fort to take part in two Roman sessions. Firstly, join us to find out how to write like a roman and then take part in a Life in the Fort workshop.
Write like a Roman!
In this session we’ll explore Roman writing, from inscriptions on different types of stones to personal letters and even graffiti! How do we read these messages – and what do they tell us? We’ll pick up some useful Latin along the way and have a go at composing our very own Roman message. The session will involve object handling, a short talk, and interactive activities (messy and non-messy options available!)
Life in the Fort
Find out what it was like to train as a Roman soldier. Children will learn how to march and will attend a 'kit training' session in which an adult officer will get dressed in armour and equipped with weapons. They'll also make their own Roman Helmet before learning how to fight as a Roman soldier.
Session numbers are capped, so book soon to secure your space.
These sessions are aimed at KS2 level children. We ask that parents accompany their children and are responsible for them during the visit. We suggest that younger siblings aren’t in attendance, except for babes in arms. This is due to limited room capacity and for health and safety reasons in respect of the objects in use.
